T he Haddon Township Police Department is a full-service police department serving the citizens in and around Haddon Township, New Jersey. Our department features several sub-divisions (listed at left) who work together to provide exceptional services and safety to our citizens.
The Haddon Township Police Traffic Safety Unit consists of two officers, working 10 hours shifts, ensuring rush hour coverage and is supervised by Lt. Thomas Fitzgerald. The mission of the Haddon Township Traffic Safety Unit is to maintain the normal and safe flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout the township. The Traffic Safety Unit uses several means to conduct their mission, including the use of the radar speed trailer, the JAMAR traffic counter and vehicle patrols.
When voluntary compliance is not accomplished, officers must resort to the issuance of traffic citations, towing, and other means to assure a safe and normal traffic flow. The Traffic Safety Unit functions include: traffic enforcement, crash prevention, DWI enforcement, traffic control at special events, promotion and installation of child restraints, selective enforcement using radar speed detection devices, and traffic related training of patrol officers. The Traffic Safety Unit participates in several special traffic operations including the Buckle-Up South Jersey seatbelt enforcement operation; multi agency D.W.I. checkpoints, which are designated to detect impaired motorists; safety checkpoints in conjunction with the Motor Vehicle Commission where officers detect unsafe cars and trucks and remove them from the roadways and intersection enforcement at high incident crash locations designed as an effort to reduce crashes, injuries and property damage.
Haddon Township Speed TrailerThe Haddon Township radar trailer is deployed in areas where high traffic speed appears to be a problem. The radar trailer is used to monitor vehicle speeds and visually display the speed of passing vehicles. It is a fully functional radar unit and if an officer is present the officer MAY write tickets based off the radar readings.
